Quarterback Hendon Hooker is one of the main reasons why the Tennessee Vols are being picked to finish second in the SEC East.

Hooker has been a revelation for the Vols after arriving early last year as a transfer from Virginia Tech.

The Greensboro, NC native, however, almost didn't end up at Tennessee.

Hooker told the Smoky Mountain Club (powered by The Players Lounge) recently that he initially thought about going to NC State so he could stay close to home (NC State is a little over an hour from Hooker's hometown of Greensboro).

Things didn't work out with NC State, so Hooker called up his friend and former high school teammate Emmanuel Moseley to ask about Tennessee.

Hooker was a freshman backup quarterback at Dudley High School when Moseley was a senior starting quarterback for the Panthers.

Moseley signed with Tennessee as a member of Butch Jones' 2014 class. He was ranked as the No. 880 player in the 2014 recruiting class. Moseley is now in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers.

Here's a clip of Hooker talking about calling Moseley and asking him about Knoxville.

It's wild how things work out sometimes. Who would've thought eight years ago when Moseley signed with Tennessee he'd eventually be responsible for a potential Heisman Trophy candidate coming to Knoxville as a transfer???

That's the kind of stuff that movie scripts are made of.
