Joe Milton is expected to be the Tennessee Vols' starting quarterback in 2023.

Milton is entering his third year in Tennessee's program after arriving as a transfer from Michigan in early 2021.

In limited action last season, Milton passed for 971 yards, 10 touchdowns, and zero interceptions (Milton started the final two games of the season after Hendon Hooker suffered a season-ending ACL injury).

Milton is a physical freak who can throw the ball a seemingly endless distance. It feels like the Vols are never out of Hail Mary range with Milton on the field.

The arm strength is obviously a big weapon for Milton. But it can be a curse, too.

One area where the Florida native has struggled is with "touch" on his passes.

At times, Milton puts a little too much arm into his passes — specifically the short/intermediate routes.

New Tennessee offensive coordinator Joey Halzle, however, suggested on Thursday that Milton has made vast improvements in his ability to throw the ball with touch.

Halzle called those improvements "high end" while also suggesting that Milton has another level he can reach this season with this play.

A lot of the talk this offseason has focused on the arrival of five-star phenom Nico Iamaleava.

But folks shouldn't be sleeping on Joe Milton. He has Heisman Trophy potential — especially if he can learn to control his arm strength. If Milton can develop elite touch, he'll be a serious threat to be a top 10 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
