A former Tennessee Vols player who left the program during the 2021 season was in the UT locker room after the win against Alabama
An odd story emerged from the NFL Draft combine in Indianapolis this week that involved the Tennessee Vols.
According to 247Sports, a former Tennessee player who left the program in 2021 was in the Vols' locker room after UT's 52-49 win against Alabama.
And he was a guest of quarterback Joe Milton.
GoVols247 spoke with former Tennessee running back Tiyon Evans at the combine this week and he revealed that he attended the Alabama game this past season.
Evans left UT in late 2021 and transferred to Louisville. He told GoVols247 that he left so he could be closer to his son.
Louisville had a bye week when the Vols played Bama so he made the trip to Knoxville to check out his former team.
When Tennessee won the game, Evans was one of the first fans to storm the field. Eventually, he ended up in the Vols' locker room to help celebrate the win.
“We had a bye week and I went back (for) the game against Bama and I was actually able to go in the locker room with them guys,” said Evans to GoVols247. “That was a different feel. I actually was the first guy to storm the field.”
“It’s still family vibes,” added Evans of his return to UT before pointing out that misses Tennessee (check out the full interview for more quotes from Evans about his time at UT).
Anytime a key player leaves a program, it's viewed as a "red flag" (right or wrong, that's how it goes). In Evans' case, it's clear that there were no red flags with his decision to transfer. He simply needed to be closer to his family, which is more than understandable.
It says a lot that he took the time to come back to Knoxville to support his teammates. It's just another sign that the program is in great health under Josh Heupel.
