One of the Tennessee Vols' most notable moments during Josh Heupel's first season (2021) in Knoxville came during UT's loss to the Ole Miss Rebels.
Near the end of the game, fans, after becoming frustrated by questionable calls and numerous injuries, started pelting the field with trash (and at least one mustard bottle).
One of the items, a golf ball, actually hit Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.
Tennessee was fined for the fiasco. And many college football analysts suggested that the trash-throwing incident would be a black eye for the Vols in recruiting.
But that doesn't appear to be the case.
2024 five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis, the No. 2 quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class, recently spoke to 247Sports about his recruitment.
Davis, a native of Charlotte, has the Vols among his top schools. And while discussing his recruitment, he referenced the Tennessee/Ole Miss game.
“I have an unbelievable relationship with Coach (Joey) Halzle and Coach (Josh) Heupel," said Davis to 247Sports. "They always show nothing but love. The atmosphere at Neyland Stadium is unmatched. Of course I was there when they beat Alabama, a night I’ll never forget and one against Ole Miss where people were throwing stuff at Lane Kiffin. It’s always an unbelievable experience when I’m at Tennessee and I love everything about the Volunteers.”
It certainly doesn't sound like Davis, one of the most coveted recruits in the nation, views the Ole Miss game as a negative when it comes to Tennessee.
Davis is set to commit on March 31 at 1:30 PM ET on SportsCenter. He's expected to choose between Tennessee, Clemson, Michigan, North Carolina, and Ohio State.
Michigan is viewed as the favorite for Davis, but you truly never know when it comes to recruiting — especially in the NIL era.
