One of the Tennessee Vols' top 2026 recruiting targets was called a "matchup nightmare" this week by a national recruiting analyst.
Rivals.com's Greg Smith pointed out 2026 four-star tight Carson Sneed as one of the top performers during recent Rivals Camp Series stops.
Sneed, 6-foot-6/230 lbs from Nashville, TN, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 8 tight end in the nation and the No. 4 player in the state of Tennessee. He's also rated as the No. 172 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.
"At 6-foot-6, 230-pounds, the Tennessee native was a matchup nightmare for every defender to line up against him…he also flashed the ability to contort his body and adjust to make the catch," wrote Smith this week.
Smith also said that the Vols have Sneed's attention.
"He dropped a top five of Tennessee, Louisville, Ohio State, Auburn and Ole Miss. The in-state Vols seem to have his attention," noted Smith.
Sneed has visited Tennessee eight times since last summer, including a trip to Knoxville earlier this month. His older brother, Dayton, was a freshman wide receiver for the Vols this past season. Suffice it to say, the four-star tight end is quite familiar with Tennessee at this point.
Despite the familiarity with Tennessee, Sneed said earlier this offseason that he doesn't have a leader in his recruitment.
"There's nobody leading so far," said Sneed to 247Sports. "I'm keeping an open mind to everything. I think the reason I've got the Crystal Ball there is because of my brother there."
Sneed doesn't have a planned commitment date yet.
