The Tennessee Vols are one of several teams in the mix for 2024 five-star defensive lineman Williams Nwaneri.

Nwaneri, 6-foot-5/250 lbs from Lees Summitt, MO, is ranked in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 1 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 3 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.

Earlier this week, Rivals.com national recruiting director Adam Gorney gave his latest update on Nwaneri's recruitment and predicted where the coveted five-star defensive lineman will commit.

Gorney noted that Georgia has made "significant in-roads" in Nwaneri's recruitment, but ultimately, he doesn't think the talented recruit will land in Athens.

Instead, Gorney thinks Nwaneri will commit to Oklahoma over Georgia, Missouri, and Tennessee.

From Rivals.com: Oklahoma has been the front-runner here for some time but in recent months Georgia has made significant in-roads in this recruitment and it could come down to the wire for the five-star defensive end. Nwaneri has more connections to the Sooners especially with former teammate Cayden Green recruiting him there but the success of the Bulldogs’ defensive linemen and development into the NFL – plus back-to-back national titles – cannot be understated. Tennessee, Missouri and others are also in this one.

That's obviously not great news for the Vols, but there's still time for Tennessee to to jump to the front of Nwaneri's recruitment — though it will take some work from UT's staff (Nwaneri took an official visit to Knoxville last month, after taking visits to Georgia and Oklahoma).

The bad news for the Vols isn't just that Gorney thinks Tennessee will miss on Nwaneri, but that the potentially dominant defensive lineman appears destined to land in the SEC even if he doesn't commit to UT.

This is just another example of why life in the SEC is so difficult.
