Former Tennessee Vols offensive tackle Darnell Wright, the No. 10 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, is expected to play a key role for the Chicago Bears as a rookie this fall.
Wright is off to an impressive start for the Bears as he's received plenty of praise for his effort, work habits, and conditioning.
The positive press for Wright continued on Monday via some comments from Bears veteran offensive lineman Cody Whitehair, a former Pro-Bowler.
Whitehair, who signed a five-year extension with Chicago in 2019, was asked by a reporter what kind of impression Wright has made during training camp.
And Whitehair's response made it clear that he's been impressed by the former Tennessee standout.
"Darnell is a really athletic kid," said Whitehair. "You know, a big guy. I think the thing about him is for a big guy, he's got really good feet. And he plays really long. He plays with good extension. We were watching one on ones in meetings just a couple of days ago and he's so strong. His strike and the way he moves his feet has really impressed me. So really looking forward to seeing him in the run game. You know, a big guy who can move people off the ball for sure."
It sounds like Wright is as advertised so far during training camp. He still has a lot of work to put in as he hopes to become a key player for Chicago, but if he continues on this path then it's safe to say that he's well on his way to becoming an impact player for the Bears.
