Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Cedric Tillman could be in line to make a big impact as a rookie for the Cleveland Browns.

Tillman, a third round selection by Cleveland in the 2023 NFL Draft, is off to a solid start in training camp.

He's off to such a great start, in fact, that Browns beat reporter Tony Grossi thinks the former Vol could earn a key role in Cleveland as a rookie.

"I think he looks real good," said Grossi. "I mean, you can tell he's one of the biggest receivers out there. I see him making a lot of catches. He's coming in with usually the these last two quarterbacks. He's getting his most reps there. He's on his way. I don't know how soon he's going to contribute, but I think he's gonna contribute as a rookie. Let's put it this way — he was a third round pick, David Bell was a third round pick — he looks a lot better than Bell did at this point last year."

Grossi's comments about Tillman come just a day after Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt offered some positive observations about the former Tennessee standout.

"For a rookie, I thought Cedric had a really good camp coming in and learning the system, putting all the pieces together," said Van Pelt this week. "Had his mistakes, but really made some plays on the ball, which was good to see."

"He just goes out and grinds and does a great job…Ced’s a guy, you know, he’s not going to say anything. He’s going to go out and do his job," added Van Pelt.

It certainly sounds like Tillman is primed to make an impact for the Browns in 2023.

And that's a good thing for Tennessee. If former Vols wide receivers that played under head coach Josh Heupel start excelling in the NFL, it's just going to make Tennessee even more attractive for elite wide receiver recruits.
