Opposing college football coach makes big prediction for Tennessee's game against Alabama in 2024

If the Tennessee Vols are going to reach the 12-team College Football Playoff in 2024, they'll likely need to get a win against the Alabama Crimson Tide on October 19 in Knoxville.
Tennessee last beat Alabama in Knoxville in 2022. The Vols held a halftime lead against the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa last season before ultimately losing 34-20 after getting shut out in the second half.
With Nick Saban enjoying retirement and the Vols handing the offense over to former five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava, there's plenty of optimism on Rocky Top entering the 2024 season that Tennessee can secure their second win against Alabama in the last three seasons.
At least one anonymous opposing coach feels the same way.
An anonymous coach told Lindy Sports (via their 2024 college football preview) that he thinks the Vols will beat Alabama in 2024. He also thinks Tennessee has a legitimate chance to reach the College Football Playoff this season.
“I think they’ve recruited really well, and from what I can tell, they’re managing the transfer portal as good as you can,” said the anonymous coach. “I think they’ve got a good coaching staff, I really do, They fit together. Obviously, the SEC is hard, but I think they’ve got a chance (to make CFP) if they get the quarterback position clicking. I bet they beat Alabama this year.”
For all of the talk about the Vols' offense and whether or not it's a gimmick (it's not…that's just a way for opposing fans to dismiss it), it's clear that there's plenty of respect among college football coaches for what Josh Heupel and his staff are doing at Tennessee.
If the Vols can get a win against Alabama at home this fall, it could be a sign that Tennessee is officially passing the Crimson Tide in the pecking order of the SEC.
