Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt doesn't think the matchup between the Tennessee Vols and the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman on Saturday night will be a blowout.
Klatt said this week on The Joel Klatt Show that he's expecting a close game between the Vols and the Sooners. So close, in fact, that he thinks the game will be decided by just one point.
And he thinks it'll be Tennessee that's on the winning side.
One reason why Klatt thinks the game will be close is because it'll be Tennessee redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava's first career road start.
"I think it's a really close game," said Klatt. "I cannot in good conscience say that a kid in his first road start is going to go cover (Tennessee is a touchdown favorite by most sports betting books). So I can't take the 6.5 (points) and Tennessee. I'm going to say Tennessee wins this one by one. Tennessee wins 21-20. But Oklahoma covers the points."
That's probably fair from Klatt. Tennessee should win this game given their talent and depth advantage. But the Vols have had trouble in prime time road games under Josh Heupel. This game is a chance to change that narrative while also setting the Vols up for a likely playoff push.
I think a blowout could be in play if the Vols' offense hits on all cylinders like it did two years ago in Baton Rouge against LSU. But because we haven't seen that happen in a night road game yet under Heupel, it's tough to predict that Tennessee will win in blowout fashion in Norman.
