The Florida Gators decided to have a little fun on the first day of the early signing period by throwing some shade at the Tennessee Vols.
Florida swiped a recruit from the Vols — 2025 four-star defensive back Shaedy Hayward flipped from Tennessee to Florida on Wednesday — which led to the Gators' social media team taking a swipe at the Vols.
The official Florida Twitter account tweeted a screenshot of a Vols fan writing "smart decision young man".
That screenshot was followed up by the official announcement that Hayward had signed with the Gators.
I'm not sure what Florida was going for there. I mean sure, they flipped a recruit from the Vols. Good for them I guess? We've seen quite a bit of movement by recruits on the first day of the early signing period (the Vols flipped a cornerback from Miami for example), so this was hardly a unique situation. It happens. The world of recruiting is more volatile than ever right now (thanks mostly to NIL deals).
It's an odd flex from Florida — especially considering they finished the season 7-5 with loss to Tennessee on their resumé.
