The Florida Gators will be without a key player when the Tennessee Vols visit Gainesville later this season.

Gators head coach Billy Napier confirmed this week that starting cornerback Dijon Johnson will miss the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery.

“It’s going to be fixable, nothing long-term there, but he will be out for the remainder of the season,” said Napier.

Johnson is a former four-star recruit who was rated as the No. 27 player in the state of Florida in the 2023 recruiting class. He recorded an interception in Florida’s loss to the LSU Tigers earlier this month.

Tennessee will be looking for its first win in Gainesville since 2003

Things aren’t going well for Florida this season, and there’s a decent chance that Napier won’t be the Gators’ head coach in late November when the Vols visit the Swamp.

But circumstances don’t seem to matter in this rivalry. The Vols have had absolutely dreadful luck in Gainesville against some not-so-great Florida teams. Tennessee dropped winnable games in the Swamp in 2015, 2017, and 2023. The Vols’ last win in Gainesville came in 2003.

A trip to the College Football Playoff could be on the line when Tennessee plays Florida in November, making this rivalry game even more important for the Vols.
