Florida Gators offensive lineman Kingsley Egakun is eager to play the Tennessee Vols again after dropping last season's matchup in Knoxville.
The Gators will host Tennessee on September 16 at 7:00 PM ET in the Swamp. The Vols haven't won in Gainesville since 2003 when Phillip Fulmer was UT's head coach.
Egakun admitted during SEC Media Days in Nashville last week that Florida will have a little extra juice for the matchup against Tennessee.
"We're gonna be fired up for that one," said Egakun. "We're fired up for every game but we'll be fired up for Tennessee. That's a conference game, SEC its a battle."
"If you want to get to the championship, you got to go through Tennessee to do that," added Eguakun. "I think everybody's fired up just in general for the season and the opportunity to kind of go out there and prove all these naysayers wrong. Tennessee means a lot, any SEC game means a lot, but that one definitely we got that one."
The Vols are going to have their hands full with the Gators. Tennessee should be favored in that matchup despite the fact that it's in Gainesville. But Florida is clearly putting a lot of importance on the matchup with the Vols.
Tennessee, meanwhile, knows they have to beat Florida to accomplish their goal of winning the SEC East. That's not a game the Vols can afford to lose.
There will be plenty of pressure on Billy Napier and the Gators, too. Florida hasn't lost two games in a row to the Vols since 2003 and 2004 when Ron Zook was the Gators' head coach. Napier certainly doesn't want to be the Florida head coach that ends that impressive streak.
Regardless of the outcome, college football fans in general should rejoice that Tennessee and Florida is finally relevant on a national stage again. The sport is better when Tennessee vs Florida means something.
