Former Tennessee Vols standout Dalton Knecht didn't play in Luka Doncic's debut for the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night.

Knecht, who was traded from the Lakers to the Charlotte Hornets late last week, was on the Lakers' bench in street clothes on Monday night after Los Angeles' deal with the Hornets was rescinded due to concerns over Mark Williams' health (Williams was the player heading from the Hornets to the Lakers in the failed deal for Knecht).

Los Angeles head coach JJ Redick said on Monday that Knecht still needs some time to process the last few days before re-joining the Lakers' rotation (Knecht, who actually made it to Charlotte for a shootaround before getting sent back to Los Angeles, is expected to play for the Lakers on Wednesday).

On Tuesday, former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant weighed in on Knecht's decision to take some time before returning to the court.

Bryant made it clear that he supports the fact that Knecht needs some time to process the bizarre situation.

"I understand where DK coming from…he should feel some type of way…he’s human," wrote Bryant in a tweet. "Protect your mental Dalton Knecht! F–k anybody who think differently."

Folks forget sometimes that pro athletes are humans before they're anything else. There's real emotion involved in these transactions (and failed transactions).

Knecht made the right call to take some time. The former Vol has been through a wide range of emotions over the last several days. If Knecht would've taken the court on Monday night, he almost certainly wouldn't have been at his best. And that would've made the week even tougher on Knecht.

It's unfortunate that Knecht's been caught in the middle of a weird situation with the Lakers. But he's a great player and an elite competitor with a bright future. Eventually, this will all be a distant memory for the former Tennessee guard.
