Former Tennessee Vols outfielder Drew Gilbert had a heck of a night on Wednesday for the Triple-A Syracuse Mets.

Gilbert, who just recently returned to action after a lengthy stay on the injured list (due to a hamstring injury he suffered in April), hit a laser of a home run against the Durham Bulls on Wednesday night.

The home run, which was measured at 104.6 MPH off the bat, was Gilbert's first since the opening day of the season.

Gilbert finished the game 2-for-5 from the plate, raising his average to .214 on the season (it seems Gilbert is finding his groove now that he's healthy).

The former Vol didn't just have a good night with the bat, he also came up big in the field.

Gilbert made a nice catch on a ball hit to the gap in the fourth inning, robbing a Durham Bulls hitter of an extra base hit.

Before Gilbert's injury earlier this season, there was some speculation that the former Vol could reach the big leagues in 2024. That seems unlikely now (barring an injury at the MLB level), but Gilbert still seems well positioned to make an impact for the New York Mets in 2025.
