Former Tennessee Vols head coach Butch Jones drops a new all-time quote that will have everyone shaking their head
Former Tennessee Vols head coach Butch Jones has dropped some all-time quotes during his time in college football. Former Tennessee Vols head coach Butch Jones has dropped some all-time quotes during his time in college football.
During his time at Tennessee (2013 to 2017), Jones fired off classics such as “five-start hearts”, “championship of life”, and “he landed on a helmet, and that’s the truth”.
Jones, who is in his fifth season as the head coach at Arkansas State, dropped another bizarre quote this week while speaking at the Little Rock Touchdown Club.
Butch Jones apparently isn’t aware of in-state rivalry games
While speaking at the Little Rock Touchdown Club on Monday, Jones told those in attendance that the Arkansas State vs Arkansas matchup that was played earlier this season needs to continue because no other state in the union has experienced that kind of environment.
“I’d be remiss if I didn’t say thank you Little Rock,” said Jones. “The game here in War Memorial (Stadium) obviously did not have the outcome that we wanted. But I will tell you what, for the entire state of Arkansas to come together in our state capital, in that environment, no other state of the union has ever experienced that. And why would we take that away?”
I have no idea what Jones is talking about. There’s a long list of in-state rivalry games (many of which are played in state capitals) that take place each season in college football. And they all provide some great environments.
Clemson vs South Carolina
Georgia Tech vs Georgia
Vanderbilt vs Tennessee
Auburn vs Alabama
Arizona State vs Arizona
Florida vs Florida State
Kentucky vs Louisville
Ole Miss vs Mississippi State
The list goes on.
Jones has never been shy about embellishing, but this may be a new level of stretching the truth for the former Tennessee head coach.
