On Monday, the Atlanta Falcons continued the NFL's streak of insane news days by trading quarterback Matt Ryan to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2022 third-round draft pick.
Ryan is a former NFL MVP (2016) who had been with the Falcons since 2008 when he was selected with the No. 3 overall pick.
After news of the deal broke, former Tennessee Vols standout Cordarrelle Patterson, who was Ryan's teammate in 2021 in Atlanta, tweeted a great reaction to the trade.
Patterson was an incredible player for the Vols. And he had a terrific year with the Falcons last season (he set a career-high in rushing yards and receiving yards).
But I don't think he'll be seeing any action at quarterback in 2022 (though he did attempt one pass in 2021), despite his offer to get warmed up.
Patterson recently re-signed with the Falcons, but shortly after his tweet, the Falcons signed former Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota to replace Ryan.
Mariota hasn't been a starter since the 2019 season when he was replaced as the Titans starting quarterback by Ryan Tannehill.
