Tennessee Vols fans loudly celebrated two wins on Saturday.

The Vols took care of business against East Tennessee State in a 72-17 beatdown before changing the channel (or turning on the radio on the way home from Neyland) to watch the end of USF’s game against the Florida Gators in Gainesville.

Former Tennessee offensive coordinator Alex Golesh, who is in his third season as the head coach at USF, led the Bulls to a thrilling 18-16 win against the Gators.

USF assistant offensive line coach Parker Ball — a former Vols offensive lineman who played at Tennessee from 2019 to 2022 before spending two seasons on Josh Heupel’s staff as a graduate assistant — took to Twitter/X.com after the game to celebrate the win.

“FINALLY GOT ONE IN THE SWAMP…BLESSED!” tweeted Ball.

Parker Ball wasn’t the only player or coach on USF’s sideline with a Tennessee connection

Ball only played in one game in the Swamp as a Vol — Tennessee’s loss to Florida in 2021.

The Georgia native, however, was part of the Vols’ win against the Gators in Knoxville in 2022. He was also on Tennessee’s coaching staff for the loss in Gainesville in 2023 and the win in Knoxville in 2024.

Ball and Golesh, by the way, weren’t the only players and coaches on the USF sideline on Saturday with a connection to Tennessee.

USF wide receiver Chas Nimrod transferred from Tennessee after the 2024 season. Quarterback Gaston Moore also transferred from Tennessee to USF this past offseason. And defensive back De’Shawn Rucker is in his second season with USF after transferring from Tennessee.

Additionally, USF wide receivers coach Kodi Burns was the Vols’ wide receivers coach in 2021. Offensive line coach Tyler Hudanick was a graduate assistant at UT in 2021 and 2022. Special teams coordinator Chad Creamer was a defensive analyst at Tennessee in 2022. Tight ends coach Jack Taylor was an offensive quality control assistant for the Vols from 2021 to 2022. And running backs coach Micah James was an offensive analyst at Tennessee in 2023.

I’m sure there will be plenty of congratulatory texts sent from Knoxville to Tampa tonight.
