Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano is one of the worst head coaches in college football in one key metric.

Schiano, who was famously almost hired as the Tennessee Vols' head coach in 2017 (before a fan revolt stopped the hire), returned to Rutgers in 2020 after serving as the program's head coach from 2001 to 2011.

Since returning to Rutgers in 2020, Schiano has gone 0-10 against top 25 teams.

In his career, Schiano is 4-27 against top 25 programs (12.9 percent winning percentage), which is the fifth-worst winning percentage against top 25 teams among Power-5 head coaches (via 247Sports).

Tennessee fans received a ridiculous amount of criticism for the fan revolt that prevented Schiano from landing in Knoxville. The lackluster Jeremy Pruitt era, which immediately followed the fan revolt, added to the criticism that UT fans had thrown their way (the NCAA recruiting investigation that ultimately led to Pruitt's dismissal inspired a litany of "Tennessee fans are ridiculous" columns).

The Josh Heupel era — which is off to a better start than anyone could've imagined — has completely vindicated Tennessee fans for their response to the attempted Schiano hiring. And if that's not enough, then Schiano's poor record against good teams should leave no doubt that the Vols made the right decision to pass on the polarizing head coach.

By the way, Heupel is 8-7 in his career against top 25 teams (53.3% winning percentage).
