Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt is entering his second season with the New York Giants.
Hyatt, a third round selection by the Giants in the 2023 NFL Draft, didn't get to taste the NFL playoffs as a rookie last season thanks to New York's 6-11 record (which was due in large part to a rash of injuries at the quarterback position).
The former Vol, however, sees that changing in 2024.
Hyatt met with reporters on Thursday and he made it clear that he thinks the Giants have a playoff team.
"We have a playoff team," said Hyatt. "That's what we want to do. That's our focus and we're gonna get there."
That might seem like a bold claim for a team that plays in a tough division with the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles, but Hyatt is no stranger to making bold claims and then backing them up.
Before Hyatt's junior season at Tennessee, after he caught just 21 passes for 226 yards the previous season, the South Carolina native told reporters that the Vols were going to have the best offense in the nation.
"This offense is going to be the best in the country, I can tell you that right now," said Hyatt a month before the 2022 season.
Tennessee finished the 2022 season with the No. 1 scoring offense in the nation (46.1 points per game). And a huge reason why was because of the play of Hyatt, who caught 67 passes for 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns. Hyatt won the Biletnikoff Award as a result of his breakout junior season.
Most of the national analysts/talking heads aren't picking the Giants to make a playoff run, but I wouldn't bet against them after hearing Hyatt's comments on Thursday.
The former Vol tends to back up his words.
