Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel has talked a lot lately about making sure his players understand the importance of the Power T.

Heupel wants playing for Tennessee to mean something special to the players. He wants his players to understand the history of the program and how they're representing it.

"I like this group of guys," said Heupel earlier this month. "They care about themselves and their teammates. They care about representing the state of Tennessee the right way.”

So how is Heupel making sure his players understand the history of UT?

By playing lots of old Vols highlight videos.

"We’ve played a lot of highlight videos in our team meetings during the course of training camp, showcasing what Tennessee football's about, showcasing great teams, showcasing great individuals that have come through here," said Heupel on Monday night during his appearance on Vol Calls.

"What are you representing? We’ve shown blowout wins, we’ve shown great come-from-behind wins, we’ve shown games that are back and forth and the biggest and best moments in college football and Tennessee football history."

"It’s important that our players understand what it means to be here and represent our program," added Heupel.

The great history at Tennessee is one of the big reasons why Heupel took the job.

"Why Tennessee?’ Because it’s Tennessee, man," said Heupel on Monday. "This is an iconic brand, one of the greatest in all of college sports and in all of college football. This fan base is unsurpassed by anybody. It’s as passionate and as fierce as any fan base in America."

“Neyland Stadium is one of the great cathedrals in all of college sports, man, and the opportunity for me to be here, represent this program, be the caretaker of this program, but to build it and build it the right way, one in which Tennessee residents that care about this program will be proud the way we play, the way that we compete, the way we represent Tennessee football."

It's clear that Tennessee means a lot to Heupel. And he's making sure that UT's storied history is a major part of the program on a daily basis.
