Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel was asked on Tuesday how much he keeps up with former UT players in the NFL.

Heupel has had 10 players drafted since taking over as Tennessee's head coach two years ago.

The third-year Vols head coach told reporters that he keeps up with all of the former Tennessee players that are in the NFL — not just the ones that played under him the last two seasons.

"I do keep up with them," said Heupel. "Obviously, it's tough to have conversations in the middle of training camps. All of those guys — guys that have played for us and guys that I've gotten to know that played here before I got here — sent all those guys a good luck text as they were getting ready for training camp. Excited to see their success, their growth. For the guys who are going into league for year one, I know there's a lot of anticipation, some nervousness just because you're going into something that you haven't been in yet. But you know what those guys have done, how they grew. Also how they played. Really excited to see the success of those guys that just went into it,  but [also] the success of all those VFLs. Excited to see those guys go play on Sundays and make plays."

Over the last 10 years, there haven't been quite as many former Vols in the NFL as fans were used to seeing in the 90s/2000s. But that's changing under Heupel. Sending 10 players to the NFL over the last two years has been impressive for Tennessee, but that number should significantly increase over the next couple of years with all of the talent that's been added to the Vols' roster recently.
