Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel on Monday addressed his decision to not take a knee on UT's final drive in their 66-24 blowout win against the Missouri Tigers.

Heupel was asked by a reporter what went into the decision.

"For us, at the end of the day, our twos (second-string offense) were in the football game when the ball went down to the one-yard line," said Heupel. "Absolutely it went through my mind (taking a knee). I don't know what the right thing is to do in that moment. At the end of the day, let our guys continue to play football."

Missouri head coach Eliah Drinkwitz said he had no problems with Tennessee scoring late and added that it was his job to keep that from happening.

If Drinkwitz doesn't have an issue with it, I'm not sure why so many national analysts had an issue with it.

It was one of those situations where Heupel had his backups in the game. Those guys work just as hard as the starters in practice and he wanted to let them play (and not just take a knee). Those couple of drives also gave Heupel and his staff some game film of lesser-used players to study. It was function as much as it was style points (for the College Football Playoff committee).

In other words, it was much ado about nothing. Folks just needed a new reason to trash the Vols. And that's what they did.
