Kirby Smart is trying to pretend that Georgia had a bad practice to motivate his team before game against Tennessee

Maybe it's because the Georgia Bulldogs haven't lost a game in nearly two years. Or maybe it's because the Tennessee Vols are coming off a lackluster performance in a 29 point loss to the Missouri Tigers. Or perhaps it's because Georgia is now the No. 1 team in the College Football Playoff rankings.
Whatever the reason, it's obvious that Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is having a tough time motivating his team ahead of Saturday's game against Tennessee.
Smart met with reporters on Tuesday and he sounded displeased with Georgia's effort in practice earlier in the day.
The Georgia head coach was asked if it's been tough to get his team's "attention" this week with Tennessee coming off a bad performance in their loss to Missouri.
"It was today," said Smart. "I don't know if it was because of that. I don't know what it was because of. They must be feeling themselves a little bit. I'm a little disappointed. I don't think it has anything to do with Tennessee. I think it's just a disappointing practice. We've had five really good Tuesdays in a row. They were not good today."
Georgia offensive lineman Tate Ratledge didn't totally agree with Smart's take on practice.
"I think schematically, practice was fine as far as executing," said Ratledge. "I don't think the energy and excitement was there that we've had the past couple of weeks."
It certainly sounds like Smart is exaggerating his disappointment with practice in an effort to motivate his players.
I'm not sure you can blame Smart for that approach, though. I'm sure it's tough to motivate a team that hasn't lost a game since 2021. And now that the Bulldogs are No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings, it's not like Smart can go off on a tangent about everyone "doubting" Georgia.
And the fact that Tennessee is coming off their worst performance of the year won't make it any easier for Smart to motivate his guys before a trip to Knoxville, a place where Georgia has won their last two games by a combined 53 points.
