The Lady Vols will soon be charting a new path.
Holly Warlick was ousted as head coach of Tennessee's women's basketball team on Wednesday according to a report from Jeff Goodman.
The move is far from surprising, as the Lady Vols failed to win at least 20 games this past season for the first time since 1976. Tennessee was also booted from the NCAA Tournament in the first round for the first time since the 2008-09 season (the only time it happened under legendary head coach Pat Summitt).
A report surfaced on Tuesday that Louisville is prepared to lose head coach Jeff Walz to Tennessee during the off-season.
The Cardinals, however, are still alive in the NCAA Tournament. They're set to take on Oregon State on Friday night.
Walz commented on the rumors before Warlick's firing by saying, via the Courier-Journal, "I think it is a slap in Holly's face". He added "I know all these rumors always get started in March. Every single year. It never changed and it's not going to change".
The Louisville head coach continued by saying "This job, that job. The (Tennessee) job's not open, OK? So I'm not even going to worry about that."
Whoever ends up being hired by Tennessee will be only the fifth Lady Vols head coach since 1970.
