There was a recruiting development late this week that probably isn't good news for the Tennessee Vols.

2025 five-star edge rusher Isaiah Gibson was expected to take an official visit to Oklahoma this weekend.

Instead of making the trip to Norman, Gibson is heading to Athens, according to Rivals.com, for an unofficial visit. He previously took an official visit to Georgia at the end of May.

Gibson decommitted from USC earlier this week and Tennessee is one of the programs that's in pursuit of the talented edge rusher. The Georgia native was in Knoxville earlier this month for an official visit.

Gibson, 6-foot-4/245 lbs from Warner Robbins, GA, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 edge rusher in the nation and the No. 6 player in the state of Georgia. He's also rated as the No. 17 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.

The fact that Gibson — who noted at one point during his recruitment that distance from home could be a big factor — is returning to Athens this weekend probably doesn't bode well for Tennessee's chances (or any program's chances) of landing the elite five-star recruit.

Tennessee is still in the mix. But at this point, it would be a surprise if Gibson doesn't end up at Georgia.
