Former LSU Tigers standout turned college football analyst Booger McFarland had a strong take this week on Tennessee Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar and UCLA Bruins quarterback Nico Iamaleava.

Aguilar and Iamaleava swapped roles during the offseason with Aguilar transferring from UCLA to Tennessee and Iamaleava going from Tennessee to UCLA.

Both players saw their first action for their new teams this past weekend — and things went considerably better for Aguilar than Iamaleava. Aguilar passed for 247 yards and three touchdowns in Tennessee’s 45-26 win against Syracuse. Iamaleava, meanwhile, passed for 136 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in UCLA’s 43-10 loss to Utah.

Booger McFarland takes Nico Iamaleava to task for the way he left Tennessee

McFarland joined Pardon My Take this week and he made it clear how he feels about the Iamaleava and Aguilar situations.

“How about Nico Iamaleava?” said McFarland. “[He] leaves (Tennessee), says ‘I don’t wanna be there.’ He goes to UCLA and gets hammered by Utah. They suck.

“In comes Joey Aguilar (for the Vols). Nobody’s ever heard of him and he just lights it up — and dare I say played better than Iamaleava ever did last year. I love to see stories like that when the guy is maybe too high and mighty and leaves and in comes the other guy who plays better.”

There’s still a lot of games left to be played this season, and Iamaleava can certainly turn things around at UCLA after a rough first game. Additionally, Aguilar will need to continue to play at a high level for the Vols as Tennessee prepares for SEC play (which starts in just over a week when the Georgia Bulldogs visit Knoxville).

So far, though, it appears that Tennessee got the better end of this quarterback trade.
