A former Tennessee Vols tight end will return to Neyland Stadium on Saturday as an opponent.

East Tennessee State tight end Charlie Browder started his career at UCF before transferring to Tennessee ahead of the 2022 season. Browder spent three seasons in Knoxville before transferring to ETSU following the 2024 season.

Browder will return to Neyland Stadium on Saturday when ETSU takes on the Vols in Week Two of the 2025 college football season.

The Kingsport native spoke to reporters on Monday ahead of his return to Neyland and he had nothing but positive things to say about the Vols.

“I’ve always joked since I’ve been here — everybody’s always asked about the Tennessee game — I said, ‘Well, I gotta focus on Murray State first’, so I guess now I can start focusing on that team from Knoxville,” said Browder. “But I’m really excited about it. Obviously, I have a great relationship with Coach (Josh) Heupel and Coach (Alec) Abeln, and all those guys. I’ve already been texting with Miles (Kitselman) and Ethan (Davis), some of those guys, and it’ll be fun. I’m excited. It’s a familiar place, but it won’t be as hospitable as the 30 other games I’ve played in there. So I’m really excited about a great opportunity for our team.”

“It’s wild,” added Browder when asked about the atmosphere at Neyland Stadium. “I was there for the record breaking decibel against Georgia. I was there for two Florida wins and two Alabama wins. I’ve seen Neyland at its peak. So I’m excited to step out there in front of 102,000 fans. And it’s gonna be different being on the other end — being in the crappy locker room. But I’m excited about it…to me, it’s the best stadium in the country. So I’m excited to be back in there.

“I was a Tennessee fan growing up….I grew up going to games. Grew up bleeding Orange. Being there for three years was definitely a dream come true.”

Browder caught two passes for 10 yards during his three seasons at Tennessee. He caught two passes for 32 yards in ETSU’s season-opening win against Murray State.

Tennessee and ETSU are set to kick off at 3:30 PM ET on Saturday.

‘A one-man wrecking crew’ – SEC Network’s Cole Cubelic points out the Tennessee player who wreaked havoc in Vols’ win against Syracuse

The Tennessee Vols’ defense wasn’t exactly dominant in Week 1 against the Syracuse Orange, but there were plenty of good things that SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic saw from UT defensive coordinator Tim Banks’ unit. Specifically, Cubelic liked what he saw from Vols senior defensive lineman Joshua Josephs in Tennessee’s 45-26 win against Syracuse. Josephs […]
