Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables leaves no doubt on how he feels about Tennessee’s offensive line after Sooners’ win over Vols

Tennessee Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar had only been sacked eight times going into Saturday night’s game against the Oklahoma Sooners.
Only one of those eight sacks came in Neyland Stadium (against the Georgia Bulldogs).
That’s why it was quite a surprise that Oklahoma sacked Aguilar four times in Knoxville on Saturday.
But despite the Sooners’ success against the Volunteers’ offensive line, Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables still believes that Tennessee is much better up front than they were a year ago.
Brent Venables says Tennessee’s offensive line is “night-and-day better” than a year ago
“They’re a good offense, man,” said Venables after the game. “They’ve got a good quarterback [and] excellent receivers. We really felt like they were the most physical offensive line — they’re night-and-day better than what they were a year ago. Our guys matched the physicality and then some. At the end of the day, I thought on both sides of the lines of scrimmage, I felt like that was one of the biggest differences in the game and why we won.”
Oklahoma is really good up front, so it’s not a surprise that they won some matchups. The Vols had some miscommunications up front, which didn’t help against the Sooners’ stout defensive line, but Venables still saw an improved Tennessee offensive line on the field on Saturday night.
I don’t think that’s lip service from Venables, either.
After all, The Athletic ranked the top 15 offensive lines in college football last week. And Tennessee’s offensive line came in at No. 9.
The Vols’ offensive line wasn’t at its best on Saturday against Oklahoma, but I think we can attribute this week’s performance to a combination of a bad night and facing an elite defensive front.
