Former Tennessee Vols offensive coordinator Alex Golesh is expected to be a hot name during this winter’s coaching cycle.
Golesh, who is in his third season as the head coach at USF, is 18-13 through his first 31 games as the head coach in Tampa. That includes a win against the Florida Gators in the Swamp earlier this season.
It’s unclear if Golesh is looking to leave USF, but his name will be discussed for numerous job openings this winter regardless.
Pat Forde’s wild coaching carousel prediction has Alex Golesh landing with an unexpected SEC program
Earlier this week, Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde laid out his wild coaching carousel prediction for later this year.
Forde, who noted that his prediction is a “walk on the wildest possible side”, has Golesh landing the head coaching job at Auburn this winter after Hugh Freeze leaves for Memphis.
“Hugh Freeze contemplates trying to make the Senior Tour as a golfer, but ends up taking Memphis instead….Auburn lands Alex Golesh from South Florida, who has to listen to booster entreaties to bring back Kevin Steele, Curtis Luper and Petrino as assistant coaches,” wrote Forde.
No one really knows how the coaching cycle will play out. As Forde noted, one weird hire can set off a chain reaction that leads to numerous weird hires.
Golesh at Auburn would certainly be interesting. Auburn is a place where most coaches have been able to recruit well. And we know that the style of offense Golesh runs — which is similar to what Josh Heupel runs at Tennessee — works in the SEC. There are several jobs in the SEC and the Big 10 that would make sense for Golesh. The Auburn job is certainly on that list.

Tennessee Vols legend Peyton Manning’s son Marshall is a still a couple of years away from being heavily recruited. Marshall is currently an eighth grader at The Baylor School in Chattanooga. The class of 2030 quarterback, however, will likely be one of the top recruits in the nation once he gets to the end of […]
