Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Joe Milton, a sixth round selection by the New England Patriots in the 2024 NFL Draft, is known by most football fans for his rocket arm.
Milton probably has the strongest arm in the NFL. The former Vol told reporters this week that he can't throw the ball 100 yards — at least not yet — but he isn't far off.
Earlier this week, Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo, who is also a former Vol, was asked what's stood out about Milton so far this offseason during minicamps and OTAs.
Instead of pointing to Milton's big arm, Mayo mentioned the energy and leadership that the former Tennessee quarterback brings to the field.
“I think the easy thing to say is his cannon of an arm," said Mayo. "But just his energy. He has a natural leadership skill as well. He’s been great for the run.”
Milton was known for his energy and upbeat approach during his time at Tennessee. He was also consistently pointed out as a leader by the coaching staff — even when he was serving as the backup quarterback to Hendon Hooker. It's not a surprise to hear that Milton's energy and leadership skills are already showing up in the NFL.
Milton is battling Bailey Zappe for the No. 3 quarterback job in New England with veteran Jacoby Brissett and first round draft pick Drake Maye locked into the No. 1 and No. 2 roles.
