The Tennessee Vols are heavily in the mix for 2025 four-star wide receiver Travis Smith.
Smith, 6-foot-4/191 lbs from Atlanta, GA, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 13 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 17 player in the state of Georgia.
The talented recruit is set to take an official visit to Tennessee on June 21. Smith also has official visits scheduled for Georgia, Auburn, and Alabama.
For now, Georgia is viewed as the favorite for the four-star recruit, though Tennessee isn't trailing far behind.
A big reason why the Vols are a legitimate threat to land Smith is because of Josh Heupel's offense. Smith recently told On3 that that he feels like Tennessee's offense is the one that he would "gel into the easiest".
From On3: “That’s the offense I believe I’d gel into the easiest. (Wide receivers) coach (Kelsey) Pope and (head) coach (Josh) Heupel, they’ve been on me a lot ever since last year. They’ve really shown me a lot of communication.”
It's always tough to beat Georgia for elite in-state recruits, but the Vols showed during the 2024 recruiting cycle that they can go into the Peach State and swipe a five-star recruit from the Bulldogs (Tennessee landed five-star wide receiver Mike Matthews over Georgia).
We'll have a better idea of who the team to beat is after Smith's official visits. But entering the crucial summer recruiting months, the Vols are right in the thick of this pivotal recruiting battle.
