If the Tennessee Vols are going to make it to Omaha and play in the College World Series later this month, they'll have to survive another tough road test.
Tennessee will head to Hattiesburg this weekend to take on Southern Mississippi in a best-of-three Super Regional showdown.
There was a feeling that UT would host the Super Regional instead of Southern Miss since neither program hosted a regional and the Vols had the tougher regular season schedule.
But for reasons that don't really make sense, Southern Miss received the bid over UT.
Tennessee's players, however, aren't concerned about playing on the road. In fact, that's what they were expecting.
UT outfielder Griffin Merritt told reporters on Thursday that Tennessee was anticipating playing on the road.
"If they told us to go play on the moon, we'd go play on the moon," said Merritt.
If it feels like this Tennessee team suddenly found some special magic, it's because they did.
Merritt admitted on Thursday that the vibe around the team has been completely different since the Vols' loss to Texas A&M in the first round of the SEC Tournament.
Nothing that Tennessee did or didn't do during the regular season matters now. All that matters is getting past Southern Miss and earning a trip to Omaha. All of Tennessee's goals are still attainable despite a regular season that was rocky at times.
