It's been a year of loss for the Tennessee Vols in their secondary for a multitude of reasons.

Star CB Jermod McCoy suffered an ACL injury back in January that put his availability for the start of the season in question.  Safety Jakobe Thomas, who stood to increase his role with the team, hit the transfer portal. Defensive backs John Slaughter and Christian Charles also transferred out. The incoming moves to offset those setbacks have been limited.

Until now.  The Vols have secured the commitment of Colorado CB Colton Hood, which he confirmed on Friday on Twitter/X.

Hood appeared in 13 games last year with one start for Deion Sanders' Buffaloes, and there's a bit of good news/bad news with his game thus far into his career.  The good news is that he was solid in coverage in 2024. According to Pro Football Focus, Hood had 215 coverage snaps and allowed catches on 17 of 32 targets for 241 yards with no touchdowns allowed and 2 interceptions with 5 pass break ups. Opposing QBs had a 51.7 passer rating when targeting Hood. That's pretty solid.

However, his tackling has been terrible. PFF notes his missed tackle percentage at 36.7% last year and 35.3% for his career.  That's quite concerning and is something he's going to have to shore up in a big way in order to see the field in a significant role in Knoxville.

Hood started his career with Auburn in 2023 before moving on to Colorado after the season. For his career, he's appeared in 17 games with 27 combined tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 2 interceptions, and 6 pass break ups.
