Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel will return to Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman on Saturday night for the first time since he was let go as Oklahoma's offensive coordinator after the 2014 season.

Heupel is a legend in Norman, despite his firing by Bob Stoops in early 2015, because he helped bring a national championship back to Oklahoma as a player in 2000.

Oklahoma is expected to recognize Heupel in some capacity on Saturday before the Sooners and the Vols kick off.

The fourth year Tennessee head coach said during Vol Calls on Wednesday night that he thinks he'll be received well before the game, but not once the game kicks off.

"I'm sure there will be a moment where I reflect back (on his time at OU), maybe on the bus ride in or walking into the stadium," said Heupel. "I might be received well early, I'm not expecting too well of a reception once we run out of the tunnel."

That's probably spot on from Heupel. I'm sure Oklahoma fans will give him a standing ovation if/when he's recognized — it would be like Tee Martin returning to Neyland Stadium as a competitor — but once the game starts, Sooners fans will be rooting passionately against Heupel and the Volunteers.

And that's how it should be. Oklahoma fans appreciate Heupel for what he accomplished as a player in 2000, but he's the enemy now. And there's probably no one want that wants to see Oklahoma lose more than Heupel on Saturday night.
