‘You’re not allowed to take my shoe off’ – Insider shares update on key Vols starter who suffered an injury against Mississippi State

Earlier this week, 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon Foster, who is part of the Vol Network broadcast team with Voice of the Vols Mike Keith, said that Tennessee Vols starting center Sam Pendleton wouldn’t have been able to finish the game against Mississippi State had the game continued past the first overtime.
“Sam Pendleton, he had a rolled ankle, bad,” said Foster on Ramon and Will on Monday. “Brent Hubbs (VolQuest reporter and Vol Network analyst) told us after the game, if the Vols had to go back out there, he wouldn’t have been available. You would have had William Satterwhite (in at center). [Pendleton] went into the tent.”
Pendleton, who is in his first season at Tennessee after transferring from Notre Dame, has started at center for the Vols in each of the first five games this season.
Vols right tackle Jesse Perry also suffered an ankle injury in Tennessee’s win over Mississippi State. Perry was replaced by Vols true freshman offensive tackle David Sanders Jr on Tennessee’s penultimate drive in regulation.
Vols insider shares the latest on Tennessee offensive linemen Sam Pendleton and Jesse Perry
VolQuest’s Brent Hubbs joined 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will on Friday and he shared the latest on Pendleton and Perry.
Hubbs believes that both players will be good to go for the Vols’ matchup against the Arkansas Razorbacks on October 11 (Tennessee is off this weekend).
“I think both are gonna be fine for Arkansas,” said Hubbs when asked about Pendleton and Perry. “I think both were held out this week for precaution. They put them in the walking boot just to help the ankles out. Both of them had pretty good ankle sprains. Both of them finished the game, as offensive linemen do.
“I asked Pendleton [while] walking through the complex, I said, ‘Are you alright?’ He said, ‘Yeah’. I said, ‘Well, that was the quickest trip to an injury tent I’ve ever seen’. And he said, ‘I told them you’re not allowed to take my shoe off. Just put some tape over it, because I gotta go play’. So I think it’s one of those deals where both of them will be fine when they [play] Arkansas.”
Hubbs also noted that it seems likely that Sanders, a former five-star recruit, will start at right tackle against Arkansas, which would move Perry back to guard (and it would push Shad Umarov into a backup role).
