The Tennessee Vols landed on a top 10 list this week that UT football fans would probably prefer the program to not be on.
247Sports compiled a list of the top 10 most difficult college football schedules in 2024 by using ESPN's Football Power Index data.
According to that data, the Vols have the No. 8 most difficult schedule in the nation in 2024.
From 247Sports: This is your run-of-the-mill, tough SEC slate for the Volunteers to which Tennessee fans are accustomed, with one catch — the showdown with NC State. If Josh Heupel's team loses that one before opening their conference schedule two weeks later at Oklahoma, the chances are Tennessee fails to impress. The Vols aren't going to miss Alabama or Georgia either, despite the randomness of the 2024 slate within the conference.
Despite having the No. 8 most difficult schedule in all of college football in 2024, the Vols' schedule difficulty is actually middle of the pack in the SEC.
Every team ahead of Tennessee on 247Sports/ESPN's list is in the SEC (that means the Vols also have the No. 8 most difficult schedule in the conference, which now has 16 teams).
Essentially, these schedule rankings are a reminder that life in the SEC is a grind. There are no easy games. There are no weeks off. It's basically a playoff game every week for every team.
And that's why an SEC team that goes 9-3 in 2024 should get a spot in the College Football Playoff ahead of teams from other conferences that go 10-2.
