Tennessee Vols five-star commit Nico Iamaleava, one of the top 2023 quarterbacks in the nation, spent the weekend in Knoxville playing in a 7-on-7 tournament.
Iamaleava is doing more in Knoxville this weekend than just playing football. He's also working hard to bring more elite talent to Tennessee.
The Vols hosted numerous top recruits this weekend — including four-star wide receiver Kyler Kasper and five-star wide receiver Carnell Tate — and Nico wants them at Tennessee with him.
“It has been great being a recruiter and letting them know what it is like out here in Knoxville,” said Iamaleava to the Knoxville News Sentinel on Saturday. “It has been a fun experience to be the recruiter and not be recruited.”
So what is Iamaleava selling recruits on?
The city of Knoxville, the Tennessee coaching staff, and the ability to put up big numbers in Josh Heupel's offense.
From the Knoxville News Sentinel:
“It is a beautiful city to live in,” Iamaleava said. “Then the things like coach Heup and the whole coaching staff. What coach Heup has done with his past teams and his whole resume. Coach Joey (Halzle). All those guys, I really believe in those guys. They are going to put me in the best position to be successful.
“That is what I am pitching to guys like Carnell and Kasper. They will have fun here.”
Heupel and his staff have done an incredible job on the recruiting trail. But there's no substitute for having a five-star recruit actively recruiting players to Tennessee.
Nico is the real deal. He has all the tools to be a Heisman Trophy winner. Iamaleava's incredible accuracy is perhaps the most important trait he possesses (along with his magnetic personality).
It's easy to see why elite wide receivers would want to join Nico on Rocky Top.
