Former Tennessee Vols tight end/fullback Jakob Johnson didn't make the New York Giants' initial 53-man roster earlier this week.

The former Vol was instead sent to the practice squad on final cutdown day.

Johnson, however, didn't stay on the practice squad long. Giants head coach Brian Daboll told reporters on Thursday that Johnson was elevated to the 53-man roster after backup offensive lineman Austin Schlottmann was placed on IR.

Johnson, who spent three seasons with the New England Patriots after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2019, spent the last two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders.

New Giants offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo was the offensive line coach in Las Vegas during Johnson's time with the Raiders and the Patriots, so the two are quite familiar with each other

Hopefully Johnson can stick on the Giants' 53-man roster. Not only is he a great football player who does all the little things that often go unnoticed, but he's also one of the best interviews in the NFL.

We need to see Johnson at the podium far more often in 2024.
