Tennessee Vols right handed pitcher Chase Burns officially entered the NCAA transfer portal this week.

The soon-to-be junior from Gallatin, TN was bumped out of Tennessee's starting rotation this season after starting the year with a 2-3 record and a 6.10 ERA.

Burns found success pitching out of the bullpen for the Vols, specifically in Tennessee's win against Stanford in the College World Series. Burns entered the game in relief of starter Chase Dollander and proceeded to hurl six scoreless innings in the 6-4 win.

Despite finding immense success as a reliever, Burns prefers to be a starter. And that appears to be the reason he's transferring.

Vols head coach Tony Vitello told ESPN on Tuesday that Burns told the team around midseason that he planned to transfer. Burns was bumped from the rotation near the end of April, which lines up with the timing of his mid-season decision to transfer.

As for where Burns might land?

ESPN's Chris Low reported on Tuesday that sources say that TCU could be one of of the top schools on Burns' list. Low also noted that Burns could look to leave the SEC (which I'm sure is what Vitello and the Vols prefer).

While we don't know yet where Burns will land, one thing is certain — he's going to be one of the most sought after players in the nation.
