The Tennessee Vols basketball program received some unexpected bad news this week.

According to On3's Matt Zenitz, Vols forward Chris Ledlum is entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Ledlum arrived at Tennessee earlier this offseason after transferring from Harvard. He averaged 18.8 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game at Harvard last season

It's unclear exactly why Ledlum is transferring, but it's very possible that it has to do with the return of Josiah-Jordan James.

When Ledlum originally committed to Tennessee, James was still undecided on his plans for next season. With James returning to Knoxville next season, it likely meant that Ledlum's role with the Vols wasn't going to be quite as big as he expected.

It's also worth noting that Ledlum is from Staten Island, NY and has spent the first part of his basketball career in the northeast. It's not out of the ordinary for players to prefer to be closer to home, though we don't know for certain if that's the case here.
