The UFL has provided a great opportunity for players to showcase their talents outside of the usual fall football that fans have become accustomed to watching for decades.

That's proven to be true for one former Tennessee Vol, who had a big play on Saturday during the DC Defenders' game against the St. Louis Battlehawks.

Former Tennessee tight end Alex Ellis took in a pass from former Ole Miss quarterback Jordan Ta'amu and rumbled to the end zone to give the Defenders the lead.

Ellis played for Tennessee from 2011 to 2015.  He had 14 catches for 232 yards during his time in Knoxville, with all of those coming in his last two years.  His best game came in his final one as a Vol against Northwestern in the Outback Bowl, where he totaled career highs in catches (3) and yards (74) in the Vols' 45-6 win over the Wildcats.

Ellis has tried to stick in the NFL but hasn't been able to so far.  He went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft and signed with the Tennessee Titans but failed to make the 53-man roster and was released.  He eventually was elevated to the active rosters of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, and Philadelphia Eagles in 2017, 2018, and 2019, respectively, where he appeared in games for all three.

Last season in the UFL, Ellis posted 4 touchdowns for DC, second most on the team.  Sunday's score was the first of his 2024 season.

We'll find out this fall if the former Vol can find a way to get back onto an NFL roster.
