Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Vols picked up a big football commitment on Saturday afternoon. As big as a house, in fact.
Charles House, a 6'3", 290-pound defensive lineman out of Charlotte (North Mecklenburg), chose the Vols over offers from Alabama and Georgia.
On3 Sports had House ranked higher than all of the other major recruiting services. House is listed as a 4-star recruit with On3, as the #24 defensive lineman and the #9 player in the state of North Carolina. The other major recruiting services list House as a 3-star player.
However, House had no shortage of interested suitors among marquee programs. His list of offers included Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, USC, Auburn, LSU, and Florida among several others.
Tennessee had House in for an official visit during last weekend. As it turns out, the timing was very helpful for Tennessee, as House's visit to Knoxville was the last among the Vols, Alabama, and Georgia. House went to Tuscaloosa the weekend of May 31 and to Athens the weekend of June 7.
House, as part of the 2025 recruiting class, will be able to sign with the Vols when early signing day arrives on December 4. The big defender totaled 40 tackles with 5 sacks his sophomore year for North Mecklenburg High with 22 tackles and 3 sacks last year.
Late week recruiting development probably isn’t good news for the Tennessee Vols
Probably not great for the Vols
