Josh Heupel was nothing short of a miracle worker in his first season as the Tennessee Vols' head coach.

Heupel inherited a tough situation from previous UT head coach Jeremy Pruitt. The roster was depleted, the culture was bad, and there was an ongoing NCAA investigation.

Despite those obstacles, Heupel still managed to deliver a 7-6 record in his first season and the No. 7 scoring offense in the nation (up from No. 109 in the nation the year before).

Tennessee is clearly heading in the right direction. But can Heupel turn the Vols into an elite program?

Recruits seem to think so.

2024 five-star linebacker Sammy Brown, the No. 1 2024 linebacker in the nation, talked to Rivals.com this week about his recruitment and he's feeling good about Tennessee's future under Heupel.

"They have a great culture going up there and they’re heading in a great direction," said Brown. "Coach (Josh) Heupel is doing a great job with the culture, and they’ll be an elite program in short time.”

Brown is likely a future NFL player. He's going to be a key player for a top-tier program. He's heard all the pitches from schools and seen what makes championship programs tick. He obviously sees something special in Heupel and Tennessee.

Elite recruits can tell when a program is going to be elite. And Brown feels like Tennessee is heading in that direction. That should be extremely exciting to Vol fans.
