It appears the Tennessee Vols are no longer in the mix for a four-star recruit that they recently hosted on an official visit.
2025 four-star edge rusher Damien Shanklin took an official visit to Tennessee earlier this month.
Shanklin, 6-foot-4/230 lbs from Indianapolis, IN, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 5 edge rusher in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Indiana.
The coveted recruit was expected to announce his commitment on August 29, but he revealed this week to On3's Steve Wiltfong that he now plans to announce his commitment on July 5.
And when he makes his decision, it doesn't look like the Vols will have a hat on the table.
According to On3, Shanklin will be choosing between Alabama, LSU, and Ohio State when he announces his commitment next week.
On3's Hunter Shelton noted that the LSU Tigers are the program that's "trending" for Shanklin ahead of his announcement on July 5.
You never know what might happen when it comes to recruiting decisions, but it doesn't appear that Tennessee will be the choice for Shanklin.
The Vols currently have 15 players committed to their 2025 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 12 in the nation.
