The Tennessee Vols are reportedly going to host a transfer running back from Louisiana this week.
According to a report from On3's Pete Nakos, the Vols are expected to host Duke transfer running back Star Thomas on Thursday.
Thomas, 6-foot/210 lbs from Homer, LA, spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons at New Mexico State before transferring to Duke ahead of the 2024 season.
The Louisiana native rushed for 871 yards and seven touchdowns at Duke last season. He also caught 20 passes for 153 yards and one touchdown.
Over his three year FBS career, Thomas has totaled 2,049 rushing yards, 16 rushing touchdowns, 504 receiving yards, and six receiving touchdowns.
Peyton Lewis and DeSean Bishop are expected to serve as the Vols' top two running backs in 2025.
Tennessee could certainly use a third running back that has college experience. The Vols leaned heavily on Dylan Sampson last season and he broke down near the end of the season as a result.
Sampson, who declared for the NFL Draft after the 2024 season, carried the ball 258 times in 2024. He had 164 carries combined in his first two seasons at Tennessee.
Landing Thomas would allow the Vols to deploy an effective three-headed monster with Lewis liking leading the charge.
