It's no secret that the Tennessee Vols' success in 2023 will be largely dependent on the accuracy of redshirt senior quarterback Joe Milton's right arm.
If Milton can be a more accurate passer than what we've seen over the first part of his career (Michigan and his early days at Tennessee), then the Vols will be a threat to reach the College Football Playoff.
But if Milton struggles with accuracy, it could sink Tennessee's title hopes.
The good news for the Vols is that it sounds like Milton's teammates believe that the talented quarterback's accuracy issues are behind him.
"For real just his accuracy — his accuracy is on point now," said sophomore wide receiver Squirrel White about Milton this week. "Everybody knows he can throw deep, but his accuracy is really A one now."
Part of the reason that Milton's accuracy has improved this offseason is because of the work that the veteran quarterback has put in since the end of last season.
"He's a completely different guy, not just player," said offensive coordinator Joey Halzle this week. "His attention to detail is elite. He came back after that Clemson game and was hungry to keep learning and keep pushing forward. He didn't rest on his laurels and say he had figured it out. He pushed and saw the success that he had, and he knew what he could do. Now his mentality is matching that on how much he wants to learn and how he's consuming the game at all times. It's fun to be a part of right now. And it's a special mindset that this kid has."
It really sounds like it's setting up to be a breakout season for Milton. And that's exactly what the Vols need this fall. Tennessee will only go as far as Milton takes them in 2023.
And it certainly feels like Milton is on the verge of having the best season of his career.
