The Tennessee Vols have reportedly snuck into the mix for a 2025 defensive tackle from Maryland.
Rivals.com's Adam Gorney noted on Thursday that the Vols are a team to watch for three-star defensive tackle Darrion Smith.
Gorney pointed out that Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Maryland were the three teams considered to be "standouts" for Smith a few months ago, but now Tennessee has entered the picture and appears to the Buckeyes' main competition for the defensive lineman.
"A few months ago, Smith said Oklahoma, Ohio State and Maryland were the three standouts for him and while one of those programs is still on the top, another has joined the list," wrote Gorney. "The Buckeyes remain and now Tennessee is the other to watch for the high three-star defensive tackle from Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances."
Smith, 6-foot-2/260 lbs from Baltimore, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 67 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 17 player in the state of Maryland.
The three-star recruit took a couple of unofficial visits to Tennessee in the spring and he's expected to return to Knoxville for his official visit on October 19 when the Vols host the Alabama Crimson Tide at Neyland Stadium.
A decision from Smith is expected to come in the fall.
Tennessee currently has 16 players committed to its 2025 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 15 in the nation.
Tennessee Vols have 2 big trap games on the schedule in 2024 that they need to approach carefully
Can’t afford to lose either of them
