Tennessee Vols head coach Tony Vitello is obviously hoping to take UT baseball back to the College World Series in 2024.

But there's one SEC program that he's hoping he doesn't see in Omaha next spring.

And surprisingly, it's not the LSU program that Tennessee lost to twice this week at the College World Series (perhaps that's because Tigers stars Dylan Crews and Paul Skenes will be tearing up the minor leagues a year from now instead of giving Tennessee nightmares).

Instead, Vitello is hoping that that the Florida Gators come up short of the College World Series in 2024.

"This thing had a lot of star power," said Vitello after Tennessee's loss to LSU on Tuesday night. "Maybe more star power than any other one at this. You guys (reporters) would know better than I."

"So why can’t next year have even more star power?" added Vitello. "Having said that, hopefully Florida is not here. But that big old first baseman, though, would probably be a good guy to have around here. But we’ve got a couple, too, though."

That "big old first baseman" that Vitello is referring to is Jac Caglianone, a left handed slugger who has belted 31 home runs this year and also stars as a pitcher who can hit 99 MPH on the radar gun.

Caglianone is a sophomore which means he'll be back in Gainesville with the Gators next season.

It'll be tough to keep Florida out of Omaha next year, but the same can be said about the Vols. Neither program is leaving the national stage anytime soon.
