One of the Tennessee Vols' top 2026 recruiting targets has moved up his commitment date.
2026 five-star quarterback Faizon Brandon told 247Sports this week that he plans to announce his commitment in August.
Brandon previously said he was going to commit after his junior season of high school.
"I am planning on committing after this season," said Brandon in early May. "If anything changes, or I'm getting tired of it, or I want to shut it down, maybe I'll do it before the end of the season but for sure I'd like do it after this season."
Brandon, 6-foot-4/195 lbs from Greensboro, NC, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.
Scouting report via 247Sports: Ascending signal caller that possesses a rare blend of pocket-passer size and dual-threat athleticism to go along with a high-powered arm. Had as good of a sophomore season as any of the 2026 quarterbacks, ranking first in a number of key statistical categories (completion percentage, yards per attempt and turnover rate). Rhythmic as a passer, getting the ball out fast and to his playmakers. Likes to stay on schedule with his clean footwork and shows poise in the face of pressure. Accurate to the numbers, and has found plenty of success attacking the intermediate level, but deep ball placement can be a bit uneven. Effective on designed runs with his acceleration and his natural twitch in both the upper and lower halves is ideal for run-pass options. Certainly benefited from throwing to a pair of Power Four wide receivers in his first year as a starter, but game tape shows a potential game-breaker at the next level that’s just starting to scratch the surface of what he could be, especially when you factor that he’s younger for the grade.
Earlier this month, On3's Steve Wiltfong placed a prediction for Tennessee to land a commitment from Brandon.
247Sports' Tom Loy also predicted this month that Brandon will choose Tennessee.
"I probably could have done this the day I first spoke with him when we dropped the 2026 rankings and you guys named him the No. 1 player, No. 1 quarterback in the country," noted Loy. "Tennessee is doing a phenomenal job. He's been on campus a bunch of times."
On Monday, however, Rivals.com's Adam Gorney suggested that LSU could be the team to beat for Brandon.
"Tennessee has been considered the front-runner for the 2026 four-star quarterback from Greensboro (N.C.) Grimsley but LSU could very much be the team to beat now as the Tigers have definitely become a serious contender for him," wrote Gorney.
Despite Gorney's intel, it still feels like the Vols have the momentum in this recruiting battle.
Tennessee player included on list of must-watch true freshmen in 2024, but he’s ranked way too low
Gotta be ranked higher than that
